Exported agricultural crops
Almost any ready-to-eat fruit or vegetables that have been contaminated with pathogens either from the environment or from human or animal feces or through storage, processing and handling could potentially cause diseases. However, epidemiological traceability is difficult for fruits and vegetables as carriers of foodborne pathogens.
Contamination of the products may take place at all stages of production (both pre-and post-harvest) and processing. Possible sources are soil, faeces (manure, both of human and animal origin), water (irrigation, cleaning), ice, animals (including insects and birds), handling of the products’ harvesting and processing equipment, and transportation.
Compact dry is suggested for detection of the predicted microbial contamination in samples, to get a fast result with the lowest cost.
